Abundant Earth Fiber was founded in 2014 by Lydia Christiansen as a small batch spinning mill specializing in high quality wool processing for local farms and fiber artists. Nestled on the south end of Whidbey Island, Lydia spent ten yarnful years scouring, carding and spinning a diverse range of wool breeds and natural fibers from producers all over the west coast. It was at her mill, surrounded by piles of local wool, where Lydia first experimented with her idea to use tea bags to hold dye for wool. With meticulous creativity and devotion to sustainable small batch wool she eventually launched Wool Tincture Dyes. Several years later, after a disappointing loss of their building lease, the milling equipment was sold, and in 2024, Abundant Earth Fiber relocated to a new home under the Appalachian highlands of Northeast Tennessee.
Though seasons and scenery change, Abundant Earth Fiber remains grounded in its founding belief.
The earth gives abundantly, so we can thrive.
Through our work with wool we find meaningful connections with the natural world, with ourselves and with each other.
Wool is an abundant, renewable resource with an astounding range of textures, colors and comforting attributes that humans have been shaping into meaningful cloth for more than eight thousand years. Spending time to make things with wool quiets the world and teaches us to love and trust our own two hands. Sharing what we make and what we learn connects us to each other as well as the ancient creatives who also loved wool.
We provide yarn, fiber, dyes and supplies to fiber artists of all kinds.
All of our yarns and fibers are sourced from wool that is raised and milled in the United States.
Our dye products are prepared by us using professional grade supermilling acid dyes also manufactured in the United States.
