One of the most fascinating things to me about wool is the wide range of colors that sheep produce naturally. From true blacks and grays, to rich browns and warm fawns, natural colored wool is comes in an abundant palette of colors that never bleed or fade. Unfortunately, because it isn’t readily available on retail shelves, I hadn't known much about natural hues before I went deep down the rabbit hole of sheep breeds and processing raw wool. When I did, I went straight for buying and spinning yarns that would tell the story for me about the gorgeous shades of natural, undyed wool.
Around the same time I had been developing a natural colored, speckled yarn, I was also reading Interaction of Color, by Josef Albers. His idea that our perception of color is defined by the context in which it's shared was influential in the final design of this yarn. I felt drawn to naming my new yarn as a tribute to him and his wife Anni who, together, continue to inspire me through their immortal art, designs and written works.
Josef & Anni is a lusciously soft, bouncy 3-ply lightweight sport that is variegated with just a touch of natural un-dyed Targhee to remind us of the abundant variety found in the natural world. All of the wool used in this yarn was raised in the United States. The natural colored wool was raised on a small family farm very close to our mill.
