Wanderlust is a 2-ply sport weight yarn that is sustainably raised and milled entirely on Whidbey Island. The softness of this wool is comfortable next to skin and, because of the long staple length of each hand skirted fleece, it also has the integrity to be hard wearing and long lasting. Minimally processed yarn such as this has an authenticity that can be felt. We hope the story each skein tells is about the profound love for land and sheep shared by the two families who made it.
Just a stone's throw from our Mill on the southeastern shores of Whidbey Island, there is a flock of East Friesian sheep turning Pacific Northwest soil, sunshine, and seaside air into Island Brebis, Feta, and Blue Ewe cheese. In addition to high quality meat and dairy products, Glendale Shepherd is beloved for their sustainable farming practices. With diligence and creativity they tirelessly nurture land, flock, family and community.
It is an abundant pleasure to spin the wool from these sheep. In fact, we have been washing, dyeing and carding this wool for handspinners and needle felters for years. We’ve called it our Signature Blend roving, and it has always been my dream to take it all the way to yarn. Now, finally, fresh off the spinners, we hope this new yarn is the first of many more skeins to come from this wool.
Busy hands free the mind to wander. Enjoy!
