The Pacific Northwest Shetland Hat Pattern was developed for the inaugural collaboration between three local Shetland farms and Abundant Earth Fiber. As stewards of land, animals, and wool, our collective passion is to protect and preserve the traditions of Shetland sheep, local family farms, and small batch yarn production. On a quest for the vibrant and sustainable future of all three, we bring to you this hat pattern ready to knit with our local wool in the ancient Fair Isle tradition.
Three of Shetlands' eleven natural colors are used in this hat. The wool intended for this pattern was tended and shorn at Ananda Hills Farm, Thistlehill Farm, and Whoamule Farm. Lydia Christiansen designed, scoured, carded, and spun the three-ply fingering yarn at Abundant Earth Fiber. The charming Fair Isle pattern was designed by Susan Kroll, shepherdess of Thistlehill Farm. The stewardship now passes to you, in which we sincerely hope you will be just as enchanted as we are by the natural strength and beauty of Shetland wool.
This pattern uses three individual skeins of natural colored Shetland.
Our yarn is approx. 1660YPP, 110y/30g per skein.
