Custom dye your next project with our Blues Palette including 5 Wool Tincture Dye (WTDye) Color Packs. That's enough to dye over two pounds of yarn! This set includes Midnight, Moonbow, Shade, Fjord, and Stellar's Jay.
A few years ago I bought some yarn that I wanted to try dying, but it seemed time consuming and messy, so I set it aside. Then I found your tinctures and it looked so easy, so I tried them. I couldn’t be happier! It was easy, and I got beautiful, vibrant colors. This is the way to go for small projects.
I used the first Deep Water tincture pack to dye 100gms of Romney/mohair handspun yarn using the dye jar technique as recommended. Beautiful color! The green struck first and after 30+ min there was some blue dye still in the water. I took the yarn out, re-heated the dye water, and popped another 40gm skein in. The initial skeins were a deep slightly bluish green and the last was a medium turquoise blue. For the 2nd dye pack, I heated a larger volume of water and put it in a pre-heated slow cooker. Dyed 200gms of handspun Rambouillet yarn and kept the dye bath on low heat in the slow cooker for an hour. All the dye was taken up by the yarn and the color was a more muted (because of doubling the qty of fiber used) but really beautiful greenish blue. The related colors/shades all work well together - can't wait to weave them up! Guessing that keeping heat on the dye bath for the longer time helped the slower to strike blue get into the fiber equally with the green.
Because I wanted to dye three skeins of different natural colors of Navajo-Churro yarn together to see what would happen, and because I wanted slightly paler colors than Blood Orange would normally give, I deviated from the standard procedure. Dye sets for 2 skeins, water for 3 skeins, all in one large stainless steel pot. There was little difference between the white and the light tan yarns, but the light gray gave a noticeably darker ruby color. I'm so pleased with the results. Lacking a dye facility and being afraid to dye outdoors for wildfire reasons, I love the freedom to dye in the kitchen that these dyes permit.
After spending the day before mordanting and dyeing with natural dyes (which I love), it was a pleasure to have such an easy dye day. And the colors are gorgeous. Your dyes filled in a few missing colors. Very pleased with the outcome. And I love your packaging. Charming.
You all rock! Not only are the dyes great, but your service and responsiveness was super! You saved my project, despite the USPS. My yarn is exactly as I wanted and I promise to send a o completed project picture when I am done. Thanks again!
I love the color variety and ease of these dye tinctures. The color looks great on all of my fiber varieties, and the citric acid is a pleasant alternative to the acidic scent of vinegar. I like the solid- semi-solid results I get which add interest and texture to my knitting projects.
These wool tincture packs are easy to use and fun! It makes dying a lot easier and takes out a lot of the guess work and mess. I have had a lot of fun using these packs. I wouldn't hesitate to buy more!!!
This has to be the easiest way to dye fiber ever. My home is not set up to do fiber dyeing the traditional way. This approach is safe, so easy and can be done in less than an hour, start to finish. And the colors are perfect. This is not my first or second purchase. I’ll definitely be back for more.
I’ve used Abundant Earth Fibers dyes to dye a couple of pounds of fiber I had purchased over the years. It was all natural fiber…beige and white, mostly, Some of the hanks were white merino and silk. Dyeing fiber used to be a big deal with lots of potential mess involved. Not with this approach. All the dyeing takes place in a glass liter jar with hot water, dye tea bag, and tea bag of citric acid. And the colors are perfect. When I dump out the water, it is just a out clear. A quick rinse and I’m done. It’s absolutely the best method ever. Oh and great colors too.
I’ve been dying and spinning wool for many years but when we moved to Georgia my house really wasn’t set up for a dedicated space in which to dye fiber. So, I haven’t dyed anything except at workshops for years. And then I saw a demo on the Maker’s Mercantile site of your dyes and how they work. I ordered the kit and tried it out this morning with some merino/silk roving. I chose the stellar jay colorway because blues can be hard to set. I got everything ready and started the process of actual dyeing and was finished…no problems, no trauma…in 20 minutes. I’m absolutely thrilled to have found your company. I’ll definitely be back again and again. Amazing!
